About Me

Hi, welcome to my world. Not everyone knows, but my name is Bruno. In the Elixir community, it's quite common to hear just "volcov".

In this place, you'll find a bit about my passions: Elixir, theme parks, coffee, chess, and nerd culture.

Most likely you got here because of my Software Engineer side, so let's start with that.

I started this tech journey at home when a friend came to help me with my old (and low-performance) computer and decided to install Linux Slackware on it. Since then, I was introduced to "terminal commands" and never left.

My first contact with programming itself was with Perl and C++. I was really enjoying the first steps, but it was only when I came across Ruby that things got serious. Beyond the language attracting me a lot, that concept of "community" was what sparked my interest the most. It was amazing to be able to participate in events, meet people, exchange questions and experiences.

I was very lucky to work at a company that was very close (physically and culturally) to Plataformatec, and it was during some afternoon coffees with them that I learned about Elixir, and then it was love at first sight.

I worked with Ruby dreaming of the day I would switch to Elixir, a language that was already born shaped around a welcoming community, concerned with good practices, good documentation, and good tools.

So I ventured to give my first talk on the subject (Elixir, who's that pokemon?), and maybe because of that you might know me as "the pokemon talk boy" or even "the juggling boy", but that's a story for another time.

Once again, thank you for visiting. If you want to know more stories, grab a coffee and make yourself at home.
